ABSTRACT

Microarray data collection and analysis go hand in hand and both these processes are crucial determinants for the quality of the gene expression results and interpretation. This chapter will focus on the most common approaches used for data collection and Chapter 25 will focus on data analysis. The number of microarray experiments that are carried out have increased in the recent past owing to the availability of complete genome sequences of various species among different kingdoms. Each microarray contains thousands of genes and hence the collection of these data and their further analysis has been aided by computational softwares. Microarray data collection and analysis has become an interdisciplinary eld combining statistical and computational approaches for gathering and analyzing biological data.
