ABSTRACT

Biosurfactants are surfactants that have surface active properties (e.g., adsorb on surfaces, lower surface/interfacial tensions, emulsify water in oil or oil in water, etc.) and are also biodegradable [1]. Biodegradability and surface activity are common properties to all biodegradable surfactants. Biosurfactants can be designed and synthesized to have properties specic to a wide range of applications. However, regardless of the specic application, the biosurfactant is also designed to be biodegradable after use.
