ABSTRACT

The single largest market for surfactants is that for cleaning materials, such as household and industrial laundry detergents, dishwashing products, hand and body soaps, shampoos, and cleaners for hard surfaces such as oors, tile, and glass. Because of their importance, such products have been and continue to be the focus of research and development to improve performance, to reduce cost, and to minimize adverse environmental impact. In recent years, the last of these objectives has included a shift toward the greater use of sustainable ingredients, that is, those derived from renewable raw materials.
