ABSTRACT

The excellent tribological characteristics of ionic liquids are the main reason for their application as lubricant bases. Their most important characteristics include a wide temperature interval in which they remain in the liquid state, excellent thermo-oxidative stability, nonammability, and low vapor pressure that is virtually unmeasurable in many ionic liquids. These properties are of interest for potential applications in devices operating under conditions of high vacuum, high temperatures, re hazard, and under cosmic space conditions.
