This chapter discusses intrinsic optical signal (IOS) monitoring of functional activities in the retina.
Basic principles of IOS imaging instruments and data processing algorithms are described. Stimulus-
evoked IOS responses in retinal photoreceptors and inner neurons are reviewed. Both ex-vivo and
in-vivo IOS experiments are presented. Potential applications of the IOS imaging technology for
retinal study and disease diagnosis are discussed.
