ABSTRACT

Benign soft-tissue tumours are common and malignant soft-tissue sarcomas are relatively rare. It important to recognize features associated with soft-tissue sarcomas so appropriate referral can be made to a specialist centre. The clinical features of a soft-tissue mass that are highly suggestive of malignancy include increasing size and pain, size greater than 5 cm, deep to deep fascia and recurrence of a previously excised mass. Local and distant staging needs to be performed to allow multidisciplinary management. The mainstay of treatment for soft-tissue sarcomas is surgery and radiotherapy.
