ABSTRACT

Burns are among the most serious injuries that can occur and, although many problems are still unresolved, substantial progress has been made since Neanderthal man treated burns with plant extract. In ancient Egypt, remedies were mainly fatty or oily substances of animal or vegetable sources and dry powder. During the thirteenth century, burns were divided into three degrees, characterized by redness, blisters, and crusts indicating reversible changes and, if left untreated, could extend into deeper tissues.
