ABSTRACT

Thyroid surgery in children is an uncommon operation and should be only performed where appropriate expertise and facilities are available to diagnose and treat thyroid problems. To avoid inappropriate or unnecessary surgery, each case should be discussed within the multidisciplinary team, which should include pediatric endocrinologist, pediatric or general surgeon with an expertise in pediatric and thyroid surgery, pediatric oncologist, nuclear physician, radiologist, pathologist, and clinical geneticist.
