ABSTRACT

Cost-effectiveness analysis is a type of economic evaluation in which the various costs for multiple decisions are related to a single, common effect. The technique is widely used in analyzing alternative government programs and policies when monetizing a quantifiable “beneficial” effect is deemed impractical or politically unacceptable. This entry outlines the role of cost-effectiveness analysis in evaluating capital budgeting decisions.
