ABSTRACT

This entry reviews the life and work of H. George Frederickson. A generalist in the field of public administration, Frederickson has written on a wide range of subjects, including bureaucracy and democracy, citizenship, politics, ethics, education, governance, accountability, and public administration theory. He is best known for his contributions on social equity as the moral basis of public administration, and for his work on accountability and governance. A brief synopsis of these contributions is provided.
