ABSTRACT
The dynamics of public administration (PA) in transitional China have been shaped by both its historical path and its efforts to meet new demands and pressures. This entry briefly reviews China's royal, state, and public administration stages, according to the nature of administration and its relation to politics. As an adaptation to the changing political, economic, social and global environments since 1978, China's PA system has experienced many fundamental reforms to build up its legitimacy and performance.
