ABSTRACT

Eleanor Roosevelt cut the ribbon to open the Mid-Hudson Bridge (MHB), on August 30, 1930 (see Figures 9.1 and 9.2). The 1500 ft main-span suspension bridge had been sought after by local businesspersons and community leaders for many years (see Table 9.1). The economy of the Hudson Valley relied on the transportation resource provided by the Hudson River, but times were changing and vehicular transport in the United States was about to explode.
