ABSTRACT
Many endogenous electrophilic signaling mediators are products of lipid peroxidation. Even though the accumulation of electrophiles can cause major tissue damage and cellular dysfunction in oxidative stress-related diseases such as neurodegeneration, diabetes, and atherosclerosis, moderate concentrations of lipid oxidation products act as signaling messengers activating cytoprotective signaling.
