ABSTRACT

Probiotics are live bacteria that are benecial to microorganisms found in the human gut. The increase in the use of beneciary bacteria, specically Lactobacilli and Bidobacteria, has made considerable impact on the consumer’s health (Soccol et al. 2010). The main focus of the advancement in science of probiotics was achieved by efcacy; mode of action, probiotic-gut microbiota-host interaction, and its combinational beneciary effect offer probiotic functional food formulation for the management of specic diseases like chronic inammatory gastrointestinal disorders and other medical conditions (Grover et al. 2012). The probiotics are live microorganisms with vast therapeutic potential against gastrointestinal disorders. Probiotics have a benecial effect on intestinal mucosa that includes several proposed models like suppression of growth and binding of pathogenic bacteria, improved barrier function of the epithelium, and alteration in the immunity of host (Mercenier et al. 2002).
