ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Women were involved in many of the Viking migrations and this chapter considers what types of evidence we can use to make them visible in the regions of Ireland and the British Isles. Textile production is especially useful when looking at female lives and this chapter will discuss the production and manufacture of some textiles in the Irish Sea region as well as inuences on dress in the Viking diaspora. Place-names too render some convincing evidence about the longevity of Old Norse names in the Irish Sea region and they can sometimes even give us a glimpse of the people who were part of this community.
