ABSTRACT
Current trends relating to the nature of cities and their populations will present major challenges in the future. Many cities are growing in terms of population and density and this is leading to increased levels of road congestion. Aging populations and online shopping are increasing the demand for home deliveries. Natural disasters are becoming more prevalent, presenting major difculties for ensuring high levels of reliability of urban freight systems. This chapter describes a number of trends in cities as well as suggesting some city logistics solutions for increasing the ef- ciency and reducing the impact of freight in urban areas.
