ABSTRACT

Natural ingredients, whether from animal, botanical, microbiological, or mineral origin, have been used as “active ingredients” for drugs and cosmetics for as long as human history. Oils, butters, honey, beeswax, oatmeal, citrus juice, and even lead were common ingredients of the beauty recipes from ancient Egypt.5 Many botanical extracts are used today in traditional medicine, and large pharmaceutical companies are rediscovering them.6
