ABSTRACT

Hemodialysis is the most ecient method of arti- cial renal support. It accomplishes molecular transfer at much higher rates than either peritoneal dialysis (PD) or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Hemodialysis is highly eective in short-term settings for management of critical volume overload or intoxication, and it serves as an important method for long-term maintenance dialysis. Children require special evaluation and monitoring for successful hemodialysis. is chapter discusses general principles of hemodialysis operation, vascular access, prescription, and management, with emphasis on the unique considerations for pediatric patients.
