ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter begins with a brief history of drug development and highlights the challenges that the pharmaceutical industry is currently facing. Subsequently, it provides an overview of opportunities and challenges of drug combination. The chapter also discusses the importance of statistics in harnessing the promise of combination drugs for targeting complex diseases and fullling unmet medical needs.
