ABSTRACT

Colon cancer, a malignant tumor arising from the inner wall of the large intestine, has become the global leading cause of death from cancers (André et al., 2004). Although surgery is introduced as the most common treatment strategy, 40%–50% of patients ultimately relapse and die of the metastatic disease. Thus, novel therapy strategies are necessary to reduce the low survival rate of colon cancer patients. Increased knowledge and studies about cancers indicated that the consumption of diets rich in fruits and vegetables could lower cancer incidence. Natural products existing in the fruits and vegetables have been increasingly and widely used to prevent and treat cancer, including colon cancer (Volate et al., 2005).
