ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The vast majority of wanted pregnancies are unproblematic clinically, ethically and legally. With such pregnancies the doctors’ role is at the periphery and marginal. The principal antenatal support for the woman is the midwife, together with other primary care services. The picture changes somewhat when a pregnant woman is also living with or affected by a neurological condition. For some women, pregnancy need not change their care and, in respect of their pregnancy, they can be treated as any other pregnant woman. For others, there will be additional concerns.
