ABSTRACT

In 2009, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documented 10,839 alcohol-related deaths in the United States. Thousands more were left disabled as a result of impaired and drunk drivers. Alcohol-related fatalities nationwide accounted for over onethird of all vehicular fatalities in 2009. Statistics show that a life is lost every 50 minutes in this country by an impaired driver.1 This equates to approximately 30 lives lost each day.2
