ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This chapter discusses design and modeling issues that are present in additive manufacturing (AM). AM, due to its specic process capabilities, has the ability to produce unique shapes that are either not feasible or cost inefcient with traditional manufacturing. Current traditional design practices are compared with respect to design activities related to AM. Data representation schemes and processing steps for AM are reviewed. Current research challenges and opportunities are summarized, including use of design rules, specication, and verication of quality of AM parts.
