ABSTRACT

Antiperspirants and deodorants used in the underarm area are intended to re-

tard perspiration, absorb moisture, and mask or prevent odors. These are regu-

lated differently in the four major regulatory areas of the world: the United

States, the European Union, Japan, and Brazil. Most other countries follow

one of these four countries. For the formulator, it is critical to understand how

these products are regulated to allow for proper formulations. These regula-

tions are limited to underarm applications. Other types of deodorants are regu-

lated differently and are beyond the scope of this chapter. These include uses

such as deodorant soaps, mouthwashes, and foot products.
