ABSTRACT

The article describes the designed structural solutions for the extension with an additional level of two existing buildings of five (hereinafter 5S) and seven stories (hereinafter 7S) in the city of Cluj-Napoca. The existing buildings have framed structures with cast on-site concrete columns and transverse beams and precast concrete longitudinal beams. The five story building was an industrial building, built in 1977-1978 with cast on-site concrete floors (designed for heavy loading) and precast concrete bottom ribbed elements. The seven story building’s functionality was office building. This difference in functionality will result in different capacity reserves, and the required performance level imposes to define different extension solutions.
