ABSTRACT

Specialization and compartmentalization, resulting from scientific and technological development in the past century, became the main aspect in conducting modern professions. This also led to the fragmentation of processes within the architectural profession. In common practice architects are engaged on abstract, conceptual, aesthetic and utilitarian aspects of the building design, on one side. On the other side, there are engineers dealing with materialization of the drawn shape, giving it weight and specific physical form, which includes defining structural parameters, construction material selection, as well as determining building techniques and technology. Currently, form finding and structural engineering of architectural space are mostly two independent processes, which consequently created unsustainable built environment. Such practice increasingly force architects to rethink the way they conduct their businesses.
