Expanded cork as building envelope – Architectonic and technological aspects

The primary function of cork is to protect. It comes from the outer layer of the tree called Quercus Suber L. Its natural habitat is around the Mediterranean on the west Europe and North Africa, and Portugal is the main country on the production, transformation and commercialization of cork (Silva, 2009).
