ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Multiple pregnancies are an infrequent obstetric event. They represent 1% of all pregnancies, two-thirds of which are dizygotic, while one-third is monozygotic. The number of multiple pregnancies is on the rise due in part to an increase in the number of pharmacologically induced pregnancies, but also because of a more widespread use of assisted fertilization techniques.
