ABSTRACT

When you have had a long career in government, you sometimes can feel as if you have seen it all. You know when a new idea will take off and be successful and you know when it will be less than successful-not quite a failure, but not quite a success. You have seen the decision-making process in action. You have seen it work well and you have seen it fail miserably. But sometimes, you just know, whether it is a gut feeling, instinct, intuition, or just sheer determination because of your refusal to give up when you know something has value, that an idea is going to be successful. It is in those moments that you believe there is no amount of rational decision making that is going to get in your way. Because, sometimes, if you leave a decision up to rational decision making, it is doomed. So this is the story of how a staff meeting turned into a monthly webinar and has gained the attention of a federal government-wide audience.
