ABSTRACT

A study on a holistic approach to wastewater minimization in  process industries was presented in the literature [22]: the reuse and recycling of water were dened therein. A complete hydraulic analysis and modeling on dyeing equipment was presented [5] to provide evidence that operating methods can actually reduce freshwater intake, without aecting product quality. Technological suggestions on how to achieve recycling and water conservation in the textile sector have been formulated, although the application of these concepts has had little success because of process bottlenecks related to strict quality specications of the nished products. Empirical trials in wool

dyeing and nishing have been mentioned in the technical literature, while a systematic recycling of puried wastewater was carried out in treatment consortia in Como and in Prato [4,19].
