ABSTRACT

If you could look at the Earth from above, you would see that most of it is blue in color. is is due to the fact that about 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, while only about 29% consists of land above sea level. Of the 510 million km2 of the Earth’s surface, a good 364 km2 are occupied by water, which has a volume of 1.4 billion km3. Which is, of course, why Planet Earth is oen referred to as “the blue planet.”
