ABSTRACT

The lifetime prevalence of low back pain may be as high as 84 per cent with the prevalence of chronic low back pain 23 per cent and 11-12 per cent of the population disabled by back pain (Balaque et al. 2012). The practitioner should always consider psychosocial factors in the overall assessment of the patient and include psychological, occupational and socioeconomic factors which can be causative or adversely affected as a result of back problems.
