ABSTRACT

The process of donor procurement includes the final—and possibly most critical—step in evaluation of a lung’s suitability for transplantation. A methodical approach should be followed. Clear communication with the teams on site and with the implanting team regarding their needs is crucial. Sharing the estimated time for cross-clamping the donor’s aorta and the organ’s estimated time of arrival at the recipient hospital helps in timing the procedure on the recipient to minimize the ischemic burden.
