ABSTRACT

Teledermatology is one of the key solutions to solving the problem of inadequate access to dermatological services. There are three main forms of teledermatology practiced worldwide: store-and-forward (S&F), live-interactive (LI), and hybrid models. The quality of images is one of the major factors in improving the diagnostic accuracy in teledermatology. The proper evaluation of teledermatology has involved five key points, including reliability, accuracy, outcomes, costs, and end user’s satisfaction. Teledermatology made a significant impact on the healthcare sector by providing dermatological care for those living in remote and medically underserved areas. There are certain stages that need to be considered when establishing teledermatology in the world. Numerous studies have demonstrated the successful implementation of mobile teledermatology for collecting and transmitting patients’ medical records. First, medical staff will require continuing training and education on providing either S&F or LI teledermatology services. Second, there is a fundamental need for conducting studies that investigate cost effectiveness of teledermatology and end users’ satisfaction.
