ABSTRACT

Human hair plays an important role in social and sexual communications with pronounced differences between ages and sexes in addition to its protective function. Major hair types distributed on scalp and body are terminal and vellus hairs, whereas lanugo hair is prevalent on unborn baby. Vellus hair has less content of keratin and melanin than terminal hair. It is therefore smaller in diameter than the terminal one, which is greater than the vellus in these parameters. Hair undergoes cyclic periods of growth, which are anagen, catagen, and telogen. The longest phase is anagen, whose length varies on the type of species and body site. Baldness directly distresses self-condence affecting the individual’s quality of life that Caucasian men are largely affected. The signicant psychosocial manifestation of hair loss is therefore worth a lot of expense for treatment.
