ABSTRACT

Radiation therapists’ (RTTs’) involvement in research or leading research initiatives is crucial to the production of new knowledge in the medically and technically advancing field of radiation medicine, but their involvement in research is not enough. To contribute to the collective knowledge, results of radiation therapy research must be communicated to those who might benefit from it, and then implemented in practice as necessary. Knowledge dissemination can take many forms, and the selection of a forum to present research results can be as crucial to successful dissemination as the content itself. Armed with an understanding of the basic principles and considerations in knowledge translation, the researcher can navigate the world of departmental lunch-and-learns, professional conferences, policy, and peer-reviewed journals, to ensure the efforts dedicated to conducting the research are not wasted by not being disseminated to an appropriate audience and translated into practice where indicated as dictated by evidence-based practice.
