ABSTRACT
Introduction The chapters which follow summarize important aspects of female and male reproductive endocrinology, as well as fetal, maternal and neonatal physiology. But before an understanding of the intricacies of reproductive endocrinology can be fully appreciated, we should first consider some of the external clues an animal may perceive that help to promote the actions needed to generate at least one replacement of itself.
