ABSTRACT

Finally, this integrated anthropological-ecological perspective seeks to better understanding of processes linked to sustainability and relationships with biodiversity, cultural resilience, and the transmission of ecological and cultural knowledge from one generation to the next, using as an example the relation between homegarden plants and food. This element involves the interrelationship between natural, social, and cultural aspects of two case studies and their ways of adjusting to specic environments through time (Moran 2000; Wilk 1991). Data from the two cases are compared with information taken from several studies of homegardens in Mexico (Aké et al. 1999; Alayón-Gamboa and Gurri-García 2008; Blanco-Rosas 2006; Álvarez-Buylla et al. 1989; González-Jácome 2007; Greenberg 2003; Herrera 1994; Mariaca-Méndez et al. 2007; PorterBolland et al. 2008).
