ABSTRACT

Chemical contamination of water by the presence of aromatic molecules from industrial wastes nowadays represents a topic of concern. Different processes are currently being used for the removal of pollutants from wastewater, such as biological treatments, membrane processes, or adsorption. Among all proposed treatments, adsorption using sorbents is one of the most commonly applied methods since it is an effective, efcient, and economical method for water decontamination. In the last few years, adsorption using activated carbon as adsorbent has been widely employed due to its large surface area. Nowadays, numerous studies have been performed to develop a cheaper and biodegradable adsorbent containing natural polymers (Alila and Bou 2009a; Aloulou et al. 2004a; Bou and Belgacem 2006; Jonker 2007).
