ABSTRACT

WHAT IS VITRIFICATION? Vitrication is the process by which a liquid is supercooled to a temperature at which the viscosity is so high that the liquid can be dened as being at an amorphous glassy solid state, having no ice crystals. e understanding of the vitrication process has deepened over the years and has been applied for cryopreservation. Currently, it is the method of choice for oocyte and embryo cryopreservation.
