ABSTRACT

I n the present chapter we will deal with the recent implementations ofcognitive embodied controls in robots that are realizing in an embrional way the theoretical stances fostering the introduction of advanced features as lower level sensory motory embodiment, intentions, motivations, self generated goals and emotions. The wording “embodied cognition” it is some decades old. Actually the first use of this label is not exactly known. It is used by authors with different meanings, essentially to express the hypothesis that the human cognition (whatever it is) is not a process that takes place inside the brain thanks to logical and computing functions and neuronal circuitry that elaborates external information and produces an output. Embodied cognition foresees that higher level reasoning is influenced or even concepts and symbols are created from bodily derived experiences and phenomena. For example from sensory-motor input.
