ABSTRACT

India is blessed with abundant water resources. However, due to various physiographic conditions, existing legal constraints and the current available technology of water development, the utilizable water for irrigation is very limited. This is happening at a time when the demand for various agricultural commodities, Industries and drinking purposes are steeply rising due to population growth. The emerging balance is to increase the agricultural productivity per unit area, per unit water and per unit time. In this section, the readers will be able to appreciate the macro future of micro/drip/ trickle (surface and subsurface) irrigation systems under Indian conditions. Data presented in this section pertains to the period 1970 to 2002 A.D.
