ABSTRACT

B A 72-year-old man complains of throbbing backache and a feeling of his heartbeat in his ‘stomach’. On examination a pulsatile mass can be seen in his epigastrium, which looks full.

C A 35-year-old woman complains of severe colicky abdominal pain of 6 hours duration. It is in the epigastrium and right upper quadrant and radiates to the back. The pain comes and goes, and in between the attacks she is left with a dull ache in the right subcostal region.
