ABSTRACT

It is shown that polyvinyl alcohol oxidation at influence of ozone-oxygen mixture and hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous medium is carried out by the radical mechanism. This process is accompanied by oxidative destruction and functionalization of polymer macromolecules and oligomers. The scheme of liquid-phase oxidation of polyvinyl alcohol is suggested

23.1 INTRODUCTION

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) finds its application in various activity spheres including medicine [1]. PVA water solubility, nontoxicity and full indifference to living organism’s tissues is promoted by its multiform usage in medical practice. Scientific interest to polyvinyl alcohol is caused by using its low molecular weight products subjected to additional functionalization as polymer substrates of prolonged effect drugs.
