ABSTRACT

Emergency Management was initiated, it was the first of its kind, in terms of content, delivery style, and platform. We experienced quite a few stumbling blocks during the journey of establishing the journal as the premier journal in its domain. It has been particularly challenging to keep up with the continuously evolving perspectives of the practitioners and academic community-the target audience of our journal. With the increasing number of large-scale disasters and emerging threats in recent times, not only have the safety of our nation and the well-being of the rest of the world been challenged, but also our thinking paradigms have been altered. We have found managing a journal that addressed such dynamic and complex issues that are under constant reinvention and reformulation to be a formidable challenge. With this chapter, we share some of the smart practices we discovered during the process that could aid new editors as well as inform anyone who is interested in learning some of the intricacies of the world of academic publishing. After providing a brief history of our journal, we present the lessons from our experiential journey through specific headings so that the readers can review the content quickly and focus on issues that may interest them the most.
