ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Liposuction is the second most popular aesthetic surgery procedure with 1.4 million procedures worldwide in 2015 (1). As patients seek to reduce subcutaneous fat resistant to diet and exercise, there has been increased interest in non-surgical alternatives because of risks from invasive surgical procedures, anesthesia, and downtime for recovery. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, there were 135,448 non-surgical fat reduction procedures in 2014, including cryolipolysis, high intensity focused ultrasound, and diathermy heating. In 2015, there were 160,763 such procedures, reecting an 18.7% increase in non-surgical body contouring procedures (2).
