ABSTRACT

This paper is to be considered in the background previously described and presents results on jet-wave interaction, still rare in literature.

2 BRIEF STATE OF THE ART AND THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

As pointed out above, several theoretical and experimental studies have been carried out on jets discharged in a stagnant ambient (Rajaratnam, 1976; Jirka & Harleman, 1979; Papanicolaou & List, 1988). Theoretical models often derive from integral solutions proposed by Morton et al. (1956), whose study was based on equations of mass preservation, momentum and, in some cases, concentration. Solutions suggested are based on defining a parameter which can determine characteristics of entrainment in the ambient fluid (Atkinson & Wolcott, 1990).
