ABSTRACT

Silica-gelatin hybrid systems obtained by sol-gel method using two silica precursors: tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and ethyl silicate (U740) as well as two kinds of gelatin (FGG and RGG) were studied. The study was aimed at evaluating the hybrid systems as impregnates for paper and cardboard. For this reason two kinds of paper and two kinds of cardboard were subjected to modification with the hybrid systems and the evaluation was performed of the change in such parameters as grammage, durability on elongation, durability on rupture, absorptiveness of water and burning time. Results of the study have shown a positive effect of the impregnates on functional parameters of paper products nonmodified by the manufacturers during the production process.
