ABSTRACT

Fluid mechanics is the area of physics that mathematically describes the behavior of uids at rest (uid statics) or in motion (uid dynamics) and the subsequent effects of the uid upon its boundaries, which may be either solid surfaces or interfaces with other uids. From the point of view of uid mechanics, all matter consists of only two states: uid and solid. The difference lies in the reaction of the two to an applied shear or tangential stress.
