ABSTRACT
Halloysite is a kaolin mineral with the same essential chemical composition as kaolinite, except for a commonly higher water content. Its higher water content led Berthier (1826) to distinguish halloysite as a separate mineral species from kaolinite. He named the mineral, first located near Liège in Belgium, in honor of its original discoverer, Omalius d’Halloy.
